Experimental Art
I explore sustained investigations through process.
Allowing Imperfection

A mug with a rounded bottom so that the user must spill whatever is inside. It’s a gift for those who feel pressured to always get it right, whether it be chronic perfectionists, children of immigrants, or corporate slaves. It is the gift of allowing yourself to make mistakes-- allowing yourself to be human.
Inspiration = Derivation

Starting as a simple still life drawing, the bowl of fruit becomes transformed into so much more by the hands of each subsequent artist. While each individual adds their own interpretation and unique flair, their work is ultimately a mere derivation of something that already exists… and that’s okay.
Golden Faces

Speedball ink and floss embroidery on fabric scraps

-
An investigation into the validity of the golden ratio as a definition of beauty. I diminish the most beautiful people in the world (according to Google) to mere silhouettes of their facial features, asserting that if the ratio is what defines beauty, then stripped down to the ratio, these people should still be equally beautiful, and yet they are not. Beauty is subjective.
Interpretive Beauty
-
Indian ink, paint marker, construction paper on two 24” x 12” canvases

-
Two different expressions of Czardas by Vittorio Monti, a famous violin piece, as graphic scores. One uses texture to convey emotion, while the other obediently complies with the golden ratio.
-
Violinist Tim Schwarz and vocalist Charlotte Zager then interpreted my graphic scores.
Healing
-
Balsa wood
-
February 2023
-
An experimental sculpture. Its organic shape and warm tones are a reflection of my personal growth throughout the creation process. As I explored this new medium, I did not fuss over how much control I could achieve over the wood and instead allowed the grain of the wood to behave however it pleased.
